What is Democracy?

未分類

Democracy is to protect “freedom,” “equality,” and “rights.”

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

 You can live freely.

On the other hand, other people can live freely, too.

However, in a democratic society, those freedoms must not infringe on the rights of others and your right.

So how do you balance your freedom with the right of someone if your freedom infringes on the rights of others?

This is where equality comes in. Your freedom and the rights of others must be treated equally.

For example, let’s say there are two people, A and B. They both want to study at a desk in front of them, but there is only one chair.

What should we do in this case?

My answer would be “they take turns using it for an hour at a time” or “A uses it that day and B uses it the next day”. I am sure there are many other answers, but the important thing is that the answer is one that feels “equal” or “fair” to A as well as to B.

In this way, it is democracy that protects the “freedom,” “equality,” and “rights” of you and someone else, respectively.

Democracy is guaranteed by the Constitution of Japan. However, it is not the constitution that realizes democracy.

Democracy is realized when each one of us protects not only freedom and rights but also equality.
