Why I’m against accepting immigrants to Japan

未分類

The reason I am against the immigration policy is because I don’t think immigrants who come to Japan will be happy. There are many other reasons why I am against it, such as the failure of immigration policies in other countries and cultural differences, but this time I will write about the reason based on the domestic situation in Japan in particular.

The high number of suicides, depressed people, and shut-ins in Japan continues to show the difficulties of living in Japanese society. I cannot know the identity of the people included in these figures, but given that they have been a social problem for so long, it is reasonable to assume that many of them are Japanese people who were born in Japan and have been living in Japan. And these people have lost their mental balance in their interactions with society, avoiding social interactions, and sometimes even taking their own lives.

So what is the reason for this terrible situation to continue for so long?

Anyone who has lived in Japan for a certain amount of time will agree that the main causes of these problems are inhumane social issues such as discrimination and bullying. Japanese society has been coldhearted for so long, with often people who must be lending a helping hand to resolve discrimination and bullying instead contributing to it, and irresponsible and cruel people becoming powerful and exacerbating discrimination and bullying. I am also one of those people who continue to find it difficult to live in such a society. This is despite the fact that there are no linguistic or cultural barriers to living in it.

I cannot imagine that immigrants can find happiness in such a society. Some people may think that being unfamiliar with the Japanese language and culture makes them less susceptible to the coldness of society, but it would be more reasonable to think that this makes it even more difficult for them to fit into society and increases possibility of becoming victims of discrimination and bullying.

Japanese society, which is unwilling to lend a hand to the weak despite the fact that its members are also Japanese, is too immature to accept immigrants. If such an immature society accept immigrants in large numbers, it will never produce good results for either the immigrants or the Japanese people.

Before accepting immigrants, Japanese society has something it needs to do. It needs to correct such an immature society into a decent one. It needs to correct the absurd society that makes many people already living in Japan want to reject relationships with others, at least into a society that is not like that. If we accept immigrants without doing so, I believe Japanese society will fall apart even further.

This is one of the main reasons why I am currently opposed to accepting immigrants.

As a supplemental note, even if I consider this issue from the viewpoint of labor shortage, it would be better to correct the absurd society and create an environment where those who are no longer able to work can return to society, prevent the creation of new shut-ins and suicides, and even let people want to start a family and raise children in this country, thereby promoting the participation of workers in society without linguistic and cultural barriers. This will also reduce the possibility of future social disruption and fragmentation, which, while difficult to solve the issue in this way in the short term, should bring tremendous social benefits through medium- and long-term solutions.
